Diversity

The issue is not about disliking LGBTQ+. It’s not about politics. It’s not about liberalism and conservatism. It’s not about the Bible. It’s about fear and ignorance. People are generally afraid of things they do not understand. Compassion, love, empathy, and understanding… are things that we should promote as a people. Although I may be a biased party, I am still a person.

Diversity is simply defined as a variety of something or differences in the norm. LGBTQ+ use the term ‘diversity’ because diversity represents a ‘difference of opinion’ or something other than what is generally accepted. Do I think we need a diversity day, week, or club? Yes, I think the pros certainly outweigh the cons. But I do not think it is worth going through a belittling debate. I believe it would help those that wanted a better understanding. We need to raise our children in an environment where they have the ability to make choices. Our job as parents is to guide them, ensure they are safe, and have all the resources available to them to make those choices.

I have values and morals just like you, but I would never press them upon anyone who believes differently. Though I may disagree with certain things, I still feel people have a right to be aware of all viewpoints. I don’t make their decisions; I just give them the resources so they can make them independently.

Diversity should be something to celebrate and embrace who we are, despite our differences, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, nationality, or disability.
